Foster Families Needed

If you are a fan of A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue, you probably already know that we are an all foster rescue organization. This means that we do not have a shelter where our animals are housed -- they live in the homes of our wonderful foster volunteers. We currently have about 30 active foster families in our program, but we are desperately in need of more.

As an all foster organization, we are limited in the number of animals that we can save by the number of foster homes we have available. Typically, foster assignments last from a few days to a few weeks. Foster families can take in one dog or cat, a litter of puppies or kittens, or a pregnant or nursing dog or cat.

Fostering an animal is a wonderful way to save the lives of animals languishing in shelters and pounds. An animal adopted from a foster environment will generally have a less difficult adjustment to a new home environment, having already lived in a home and not a noisy, overcrowded shelter. Better adjustment means better chance of successful forever adoption!

“I can’t imagine taking care of and loving an animal and then giving it up.” This is a frequent reason given for why people don’t want to get involved in fostering. Look at it this way. As a foster parent, you are a very important pit stop in the life of this animal and you will play a key role in saving its life and preparing it for its forever home. Does it break your heart a little bit to love an animal and let it go? Absolutely! Does it break your heart a little bit more to know that an animal was euthanized simply because no foster home was available?

If you become a foster parent, A Second Chance provides you with the food, the supplies (crates, kitty litter and litter boxes, etc.) and we take care of the animals’ medical needs through our veterinarian! All you need to provide is the love!

So, are you ready to become a foster parent?

If so, send an email to foster@asecondchancerescue.org or stop by and see us at PetSmart in Royal Palm Beach on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Meet Nala!

NALA
Nala is ready for adoption. She is a very sweet girl and if you open your heart to her, you'll totally fall in love with her.

Nala is a distemper survivor. She had kennel cough for quite some time, that was later found to be distemper. She did end up with a slight "bob" from it, but she is otherwise in good health. Do you have room in your home and in your heart for this beautiful girl? Fill out an app for her at www.asecondchancerescue.org.

Meet 'Brad'

Have you met Brad? He is a funny, sweet, playful, and handsome 7 month old American Bulldog mix, available for adoption from A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue. We've had him in our foster program since he was a baby. When it comes to adoptions, it seems he's getting judged solely based on his breed and not his wonderful personality. Brad is still looking for his furrever family! Surely someone will open their heart and home to this handsome boy. View his profile: www.asecondchancerescue.org.

Would you open your heart and home to this handsome boy?

UPDATE! THANKS TO THE DILIGENT EFFORTS OF ONE OF OUR ADOPTION COUNSELORS, LAUREN ELLIS, LUCKY HAS FOUND HIS DREAM HOME! HE IS LEAVING TO GO TO PITTSBURGH TOMORROW (8/9) TO MEET HIS NEW MOMMY, SPECIAL NEEDS SISTER AND KITTY SIBLINGS!

Lucky is a wonderful special needs dog that we've had in our program for some time now. He is about 1 1/2 years old and is deaf and blind. He is an incredibly loving dog that is in desperate need of foster home or his forever adoptive home. If you have the space and love to offer him, please let us know and we will arrange for transport. If you cannot at this time, do you know of anyone that might? He is currently at a kennel facility and needs a place to call home.
